1905 Frontenac Regatta [1st Series]
Frontenac Y.C. Power Boat Races At Clayton, N.Y.
The St. Lawrence River, in front of the Frontenac Hotel, was the scene of much excitement from July 20th to 22nd, when a power boat regatta was held at that resort. For over a mile long the river pleasure yachts and numerous other craft were anchored to witness the races. Besides on the boats, the wharves were crowded with interested spectators.
The officials for this regatta were: Judges, S. H. Vandergrift, New York; H. A. Richardson, Dover, Del.; and A. T. Sheldon, Auburn, N.Y. Timers, Com. M. J. Lawrence, Cleveland, O.; W. D. Cole and W. H. Thorp, Clayton, N.Y. The program for the regatta was as follows:
July 20th--First race--Free-for-all for boats propelled by single-cylinder engine once around triangular course, 6.82 statute miles. Second race--Handicap race under American Power Boat Association rules for boats of 50 rating and under, three times around the triangular course, 20.46 statute miles. Third race--Handicap race under American Power Boat Association rules for boats of over 50 rating, three times around triangular course, 20.46 statute miles. The above handicap races to be continued during the three-day meet. Winner to be decided under same rules governing American Power Boat Association Gold Challenge Cup races.
July 21st--First race--Handicap race for boats under 12 miles an hour, distance twice around triangular course, 12.64 statute miles. Second race--Continuation for boats of 50 rating and under. Third race--Continuation of races for boats of over 50 rating.
July 22nd--First race--Final in race for boats of 50 rating and under. Second race--Final in race for boats of over 50 rating. Third race--Free-for-all race.
First and second prizes in races under American Power Boat Association rules. In all others firsts only.
The race for boats with single-cylinder engines and handicap race for boats under 12 miles are open races. Owners entering in other races must be members of some organized yacht club.

Events 1 and 2 were continued during the whole three days. Teal won Friday and Saturday, thus winning first prize, and in event no. 2 Roma, So Long and Teddy were the only boats qualifying for the final on Saturday, and as Teddy and So Long failed to finish the race Roma won.

On Saturday the big free-for-all was held between Roma, Radium, Teddy, Comanche and Japansky, the latter owned by E. S. Perot, of New York, and resulted as follows.
