Henn Captures Gold Cup

Sawyer is second in Miami Regatta on Biscayne Bay

Miami Fla., April 12 [1948] (AP) -- P. J. Henn, Murphy, N.C. today won the Gold Cup race in the thirty-fifth annual Biscayne Bay regatta after finishing last in the opening heat.

Choppy seas caused officials to shorten the course, and there were no official times.

Paul Sawyer of Long Beach, Calif., who won the 225 hydroplane event, was second, and Ray Erickson, Columbus, Ind., third.

In the 145 hydroplane class J.B. Bregand, Detroit, Mich., won first place, with S.F. Steed, Tyler, Tex., second, and Sid Street, Kansas City, Mo., third.

Ed Campanella, Rumson, N.J., won the ninety-one hydroplane event, with Marty Howard, St., Petersburg, Fla., second.

In the Class E Service runabout race Sam Griffith, Miami, was first, and Tom Fletcher, also of Miami, second.

Mrs. Dawn Rollins, Miami, won the Pelican harbor race, and Cleve Johnston, Miami, won the Miami cruiser race.
