Lap - Miss Pepsi 89.256

The Ford Memorial was originally scheduled for July 7 and then July 8, but each day choppy seas postponed the event. Present for the first running were Miss Pepsi (Chuck Thompson), Hornet (Bill Cantrell), Gale I (Gene Arena), Gale II (Dan Arena), Such Crust I (Danny Foster) and Gold'N Crust (Roy Duby). As a result the race was scheduled for the Labor Day weekend along with the Silver Cup.)

Ironically on September 1 the day was cold and cloudy with a mist falling punctuated by an 8 m.p.h. wind which resulted in the third heat being cancelled. Five boats remained in the pits for the day. Hornet, My Sweetie and My Darling had motor trouble. Guided Missile failed to qualify and Gold'N Crust had had motor trouble the Thursday before the race that her mechanics were unable to repair.

The race commemorated Detroit's 250th Anniversary Festival.
