1953 Tahoe Yacht Club Regatta

First Tahoe Regatta Slated on Aug. 15-16

TAHOE CITY, July 17.—George Lewis of Beverly Hills, commodore of the Lake Tahoe Yacht Club, today announced that organization’s plans for its 1953 regatta, to be run over two days, August 15th and 16th, at Chambers Lodge on the west shore of Lake Tahoe,

This year’s regatta divides into two parts, the Water Ski Carnival —beginning at 9:30 a.m., on Saturday, 15th, and the regular boat races, same time, on Sunday, over the usual Chambers Lodge course, scene of many past club regattas. Management of the Ski Carnival, a 1953 innovation, will be under Lowell Berry of Piedmont. The affair is open to all contestants and will include a fast water slalom and exhibition skiing. It promises much in the way of thrills, spills—and trophies.

Registration for the Carnival and handling of program events lies with Jay Murphy of Tahoe City, assisted by Chuck Hitson of May-Ah-Mee Lodge, Sally Pringle of Meeks Bay, Sherman Keeler and Bob Cummings, Eleanor van der Zee and Bartow Barnett.

Another Yacht Club first for this season will be selection of a regatta queen to reign over the two-day festivities. Choice of her majesty will be announced later by Commodore Lewis.

Line-up for running of the boat races on Sunday, 16th, has yet to be announced but should be available by August 1. Generally, it will follow the pattern of other seasons, .with a perpetual championship trophy to be captured or retained— and an outstanding array of other trophies and awards awaiting winners in their various events.

The annual Yacht Club luncheon is slated for Saturday, 16th, following the Ski Carnival excitement. It will, as usual, be held at Chambers Lodge.

Another To Follow

The August 15-17 regatta at Lake Tahoe, an annual presentation of the Lake Tahoe Yacht Club, is not to be confused with another similar set of races which were announced yesterday to be held on September 14-15. The latter regatta is cosponsored by American Power Boat Association and International Motor Boat Racing Association, and is for the Mapes Gold Cup.
