11 Gold Cup Boats To Vie At Madison

Cantrell To Compete In Governor’s Cup

Elizabeth City, N.C., Oct. 3 — Racing boat driver Bill Cantrell, of Detroit and formerly of Louisville, said today he and 10 other Gold Cup drivers would be at Madison, Ind., next Sunday for the Indiana Governor’s Cup Race.

Cantrell said that six junior Gold Cup boats of the seven-litre type also would race.

Joe A. Schoenith of Detroit saw his two unlimited class inboard hydroplane speedboats finish in one-two order in the annual International Cup Regatta here today.

Lee Schoenith, son of the owner, drove Gale V to victory in the International. Cantrell, driving Gale IV, was second.

Cantrell said he understood the following Gold Cup boats would be entered at Madison: Gale IV, driven by Lee Schoenith; Gale V, driven by Cantrell; three entries owned by Horace Dodge, Jr., Detroit; Wha’ Hoppen, owned by Heinrich and Doran, Detroit; Miss Cadillac, owned by Frank Saile, Detroit; Miss U.S., owned by George Simon, Detroit; Ollie's Folly, owned by Oliver Elam, Ashland, Ky., and an unnamed entry from Ted Jones, Madison, Wis.
