50,000 Expected for Regatta on Ohio River
NEW MARTINSVILLE, W. Va. (AP)—Sponsors of the annual New Martinsville regatta today reported the heaviest advance sale of tickets in the regatta’s history and said a crowd of some 50,000 persons is expected for this year's event Sept. 26.
The 14th regatta will feature 20 speedboat races on the Ohio River. About eleven of the large “Gold Cup” class of boats are expected to enter in the unlimited class.
General Chairman E. C. Blum said more than 100 boats will take part in all.
