( It has been found that the altitude of Lake Tahoe takes about 6 m.p.h.off speeds. Generally in translating 2 mile speeds to 3 mile speeds 5 m.p.h. should be added. Using this formula Hawaii Kai should be able to achieve 98 m.p.h. for 15 miles at sea level on a 3 mile course. Scooter Too should be rated at 96 m.p.h. in the same situation. Breathless comes in at 93 m.p.h. On the eastern circuit at Elizabeth City under Jay Murphy the U-22 got up to 85 m.p.h.

At the end of the season the 15 mile ratings were:

1) Tempo VII 104.7
2) Miss U.S. 100.3
3) Gale V 99.3,
4) Miss Pepsi 99.2,
5) Slo-mo-shun IV 99(e)
6) Miss Thriftway 97(e)
7) Such Crust III 94(e)
8) Miss Cadillac 93.8
9) Gale IV 93.7
10) Miss Supertest II 94(e)
11) Miss Wayne 94.0

With regard to Hawaii Kai, Scooter Too and Breathless and their projections it was assumed that they had the riding characteristics to handle the additional speed. (e) = estimate. )
