2004 Chevrolet Cup at Seafair

Strong field expected at Seattle

Eleven Unlimited hydroplanes and four rookie drivers are expected to be on hand for the 2004 Seafair Chevrolet Cup August 6-8 in Seattle. The four "young lions" who will try to challenge the established thunderboat pilots in this year's renewal on Lake Washington are: J. Michael Kelly in Jim Harvey's U-2; Dick Lynch in the U-20; Steve Hook in Fred Leland's U-99, and Vince Xaudaro, driving Brian Rubenaker's U-00 Skyway Park Bowl & Casino.

Kelly, from Puyallup, Washington, is a champion outboard driver, while Hook and Xaudaro come from the gritty Unlimited Lights circuit. Lynch is the brother of Unlimited Lights announcer John Lynch, and has been active in the Pacific Northwest Limited classes. All four got their feet wet in the Unlimited at the Tri-Cities Columbia Cup, but must qualify to be able to compete in a sanctioned Hydro-Prop event.

Here is the tentative field for the Seafair Chevrolet Cup:
