World Record 7-Litre Hydroplane in Launch Club Regatta

Miami Queen II, owned by the Lou Nuta father-and-son team of Miami, will defend her title in the International Powerboat Regatta on the upper Niagara River. The 19-foot, 5-inch, 1690-pound plywood hydro, which set a world 5-mile competitive record of 80.609 miles an hour here last year, can do 140 mph on a straightaway. Also entered are two 30-foot Gold Cup unlimited hydros, My Sweetie and My Sweetie Dora, owned by Maj. Horace E. Dodge, ex Detroit motor magnate. The regatta will start at 1 PM Saturday and Sunday. The Gold Cuppers can do 180 mph.
