General Motors Cup At Seafair Schedule
Since the early 1950's unlimited hydroplanes have become synonymous with the Pacific Northwest. Therefore, it is only fitting that the General Motors Cup be associated with SEAFAIR, one of the largest festivals in the Northwest. For the past 49 years, SEAFAIR has been a part of some of the best hydroplane races in history. For many SEAFAIR goers, the term, "hydroplane" evokes images of roaring water crafts barely skimming the surface of the water as they tear around the course leaving only their signature "rooster-tails" in their wake.
Today, the image may be the same but Unlimited hydroplanes are the fastest raceboats in the world. These turbine engined crafts can travel at speeds of 200 mph on a race course only 2.5 miles in length!
Once again, the General Motors Cup at SEAFAIR race course will be positioned as close as 500 feet off-shore promising a thrilling water-spraying view of these spectacular "flying boats".
New this year in honor of SEAFAIR's 50th anniversary is the PEMCO Vintage Hydro Heat. Among those scheduled to participate are the Slo-mo-shun V, the Miss Thriftway and the Miss Burien.
