Stan Hanauer, father of champion driver Chip Hanauer, passed away at 8pm on April 21, 2011 with his family by his side. He was 90.

Quiet and unassuming, his participation in maritime activities began as long ago as World War II as a hard hat diver at the Brooklyn Navy yard. Whether it was C Service Runabout or turbine powered Unlimiteds, he stayed involved, working alongside Jim Lucero in the early nineteen eighties, learning the turbine engine for the Pay ‘n Pak and Atlas Van Lines teams. Affable and intelligent, he was always interesting and interested.

A public memorial for Stan is scheduled for 1pm on May 11th at the Seattle Yacht Club.

The entire membership of Unlimiteds Detroit sends its heartfelt condolences to the Hanauer family. Stan will be missed.
