Built in 1948 for D. Cameron Peck of Chicago, Illinois the Astraea II arrived on the scene at the same time as My Sweetie. Unlike the great successes shown by My Sweetie, Astraea II was never competitive finishing near the bottom in all heats she ran. Astraea II’s greatest success came in 1949 when she crossed the finish line in third position at the Silver Cup on the Detroit River. The fastest heat of her career was clocked at 65.613 MPH. This kept her 15 MPH off the pace of the top boats of her day. |
