No one had a bigger heart or enjoyed boat racing more than Joe Tate. Second generation racer and father of two-time Gold Cup champ Mark Tate, Joe kept things lively on the Southeast Michigan boat racing scene.

He was a consistent contributor to the annual Unlimiteds Detroit auction with items like a giant Smokin’ Joe’s quilt or a framed Winston Eagle print.

Joe left us on June 24 following a long battle with cancer.
