1907 Miami Regatta

Dixie Arrives At Miami

Fast Boat Will Start in One-Mile Trials To-day

MIAMI, Fla., Feb. 5, — With the arrival here to-day at noon of the Dixie, in tow from Palm Beach, the motor boat contestants are all ready for the three days' power boat regatta, beginning to-morrow. The Dixie started down the narrow Miami River this afternoon at a high rate of speed, causing a tremendous wash that threatened havoc among the small craft tied up at the docks. Besides the Dixie, the Swallow, Secret, and Simplex VIII are ready to start. The gunboat Scorpion, which is on her way from Boston to act as escort to the flag-to-flag race from Miami to Nassau, has not yet been sighted.

It has been decided that the chief event to-morrow will be the mile record speed trials. Boats to be eligible for other events must enter for these six trials being allowed. Other entries in this event are Hotstuff IV, Edwinna, Mera and Stiletto. The second day's races will be the class events in two groups and on the third day will come the thirty-mile contest. The fastest motor boats are not likely to hazard the flag-to-flag run across the Gulf Stream unless the weather is especially favorable, but half a dozen entries are assured, which insures a spirited contest to Nassau. The race is likely to start at midnight on Friday.
