1910 Brighton Regatta

Regatta At Brighton [1]

The annual regatta of the Sussex Motor Yacht Club began yesterday at Brighton in fine weather. The sea was smooth, and in ideal condition for skimming.

Mrs. Edgar Thornton’s hydroplane Columbine accomplished two notable performances. In a race for the Venture Challenge Cup she had Lord Howard de Walden’s Pierrette well beaten before half the course was covered. Pierrette ultimately gave up. In the afternoon Columbine beat Mr. Mawdesley Brooke’s Baby V by 57 seconds in a two miles scratch race over a straight course. A handicap for cabin cruisers was won by Mr. H. J Preston’s My Lady Adfa; and Mr. Foss’s Fosko won the handicap for the Daily Telegraph Challenge Cup.

The regatta will be continued to-day.
