Detroit to Stage Last Heat of Silver Cup Boat Race
Detroit -- (UP) -- Bandleader Guy Lombardo, who missed the first half of the second annual Silver Cup Speedboat race on Detroit river, will drive Miss Great Lakes today to the final heat.
Lombardo withdrew last Friday after his Tempo VI broke down during a trial run off Long Island, N.Y. but he arrived here by plane last night and said that he had accepted the invitation of Al Fallon to pilot Miss Great Lakes in the concluding 45-mile section of the race. Fallon finished fifth with Miss Great Lakes in the first heat Saturday.
The bandleader again will be competing against Danny Foster of Detroit, who won the President's Cup race in Washington last year with Miss Great Lakes. Foster will drive Miss Peps V, the boat which carried him to victory in the Gold Cup race at New York last month.
Dan Arena of Detroit, driving Notre Dame, won the first heat of the Silver Cup. Miss Canada was second, So Long third, Miss Peps V fourth and Miss Great Lakes fifth.
