[The Maple Leaf Trophy was scheduled for five heats to be run on the hour, beginning at 12 noon with the final heat at 5 P.M. the boats being given a two hour break after the last scheduled preliminary heat. Heat 1-A was run on time and then a downpour postponed heat 1-B for 25 minutes. After heat 1-B was run the deluge came and the regatta was cancelled in mid afternoon.
The electronic equipment for timing the boats was knocked out and the pits were turned into a quagmire by being flooded. Still some contestants were angry complaining the boats could have been timed with stop watches.
Trophies were awarded based on elapsed times, but then it was determined that no points would be allowed for High Points. Under Gold Cup rules both sections were scored together.]
