During the qualification period Gale V turned a lap of 115.380 and Such Crust III did 112.313. Shanty I turned a competition lap of 116.380, a heat of 109.934 and a race at 105.784 beating the previous marks by 9 m.p.h., 6 m.p.h. and 6 m.p.h. respectively. Its best lap translates to 110 m.p.h. on a three mile course and its best 15 miles is the equivalent of 106.500 on a three mile course. This exceeds the record of Tempo VII by 4 and 1 m.p.h. respectively. Miss Thriftway did 15 miles at 111.655 which converts to 105.6 m.p.h. on a three mile course also exceeding Tempo VII's 104.775 last year.
