Kropfeld Takes Governor's Cup

OSAGE BEACH, Mo. (AP) — Jim Kropfeld averaged just over 126 mph in his Miss Budweiser boat to coast to victory Sunday in the Governor’s Cup unlimited-hydroplane race at Lake of the Ozarks. Kropfeld rounded five laps on the 2½-mile oval course with a time of 5:56.82 and a 126.113 mph average to out-pace Chip Hanauer in the Atlas Van Lines hydroplane, who finished with a time of 6:16.81 and a 119.422 mph average. The Squire Shop boat, driven by Mickey Remund, was third with a time of 6:22.29,117.709 mph, and the Lite All-Star, driven by Tom D'Eath, was fourth with 6:43.58, 111.449 mph.
