Squire Shop Hydro Gets New Sponsor, Will Race In Tri-Cities
After missing the first five races on the unlimited-hydroplane circuit, The Squire Shop Racing Team has acquired a sponsorship that will allow it to race in at least two upcoming local regattas, owner Bob Steil announced today.
Brittania, a locally based sportwear outfit, will sponsor The Squire Shop hydro for next weekend's Columbia Cup in the Tri-Cities and next weekend's APBA Gold Cup on Lake Washington. The Squire missed the circuit's eastern swing after losing a national sponsorship from Union Bay, another Seattle-based sportswear company.
Tom D'Eath, owner of four career unlimited wins, will pilot the Jim Lucero-designed hull. Racing as Atlas Van Lines, the hull captured the 1983 national high-points championship. Last year, The Squire won a regatta on Onondaga Lake, near Syracuse, N.Y.
