Ohio River’s high water level postpones hydroplane races

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Because of unseasonably high water levels on the Ohio River, the Evansville Freedom Festival has announced the hydroplane races set for Sunday have been rescheduled to July 9. Testing and qualifying will be July 7 and 8.

All race teams have been reconfirmed for the July 9 weekend and a full field of 10 to 12 boats is expected.

All other Freedom Festival activities scheduled this weekend will be held as planned.

Included are the Thunderun, the chili cookoff, the controlled airplane competition, storytelling showcase featuring David Holt and Chuck Larkin, and the arts and crafts fair.

Admission to the boat races is a Thunder Button, on sale for $8 prior to July 5 and $10 beginning July 6. Reserved grandstand seats are available at an additional cost of $6.
