| RACE NOTES |
| Friday: Weather was HOT - 95 degrees and water conditions were perfect. Qualifying was uneventful, with Jean Theoret in the U-96 taking the top qualifying spot with a lap of 150.583 Saturday: Once more, HOT 90+ Heat 1A: Jimmy Shane vs Cal Phipps for three laps, with Shane crossing the line three boat lengths ahead. Heat 1B: Jimmy King ahead of Scott Liddycoat. Heat 1C: J. Michael Kelly in lane 1 took the lead from Jean Theoret on lap 2 and went on to win, never ahead by more than two boat lengths. Sunday: Jimmy Shane won Heat 2A & 3A, Cal Phipps took 2B, while Jean Theoret took 3B. The final heat saw Jesse Robertson jump the gun 5 seconds ahead of J. Michael Kelly and Jimmy Shane. Kelly & Shane powered around Robertson after lap 1 to wage a four lap deck to deck battle that was one of the closest in years. Kelly led for three laps until both boats made contact going into turn one on lap four. Shane moved ahead, but was penalized for encroachment, delivering the win to Kelly and dropping the Oberto to sixth place. Jean Theoret came in second and Scott Liddycoat grabbed third place. |
