RACE NOTES
FRIDAY:

Jean Theoret in the U-16 Oberto grabbed the top qualifying position with a 160 MPH lap. Andrew Tate in the U-9 was 2nd at 159.337 and Jimmy Shane in the U-1 was third at 158.066. U-18 withdrew after damaging the gearbox in qualifying.
SATURDAY:

HEAT 1A saw Jean Theoret grab the win over J. Michael Kelly, with Andrew Tate a strong third. Jimmy King was fourth and Brian Perkins fifth.

HEAT 1B
was a another win for Jimmy Shane with Tom Thompson a close (and very impressive) second. Jeff Bernard and Kevin Eacret finished third and fourth respectively.

HEAT 2A
saw the U-1 Miss HomeStreet winning over Theoret with Jimmy King's U-3 in third. The U-11 Peters & May was fourth and the U-7 Graham Trucking was fifth after a penalty for not maintaining minimum speed.

HEAT 2B
had the U-5 Graham Trucking out front followed by the U-21 PayneWest Insurance and U-99.9 CAR STAR presents Miss Rock. The U-9 Gale-Rew Construction/Les Schwab threw a prop, doing extensive damage and forcing withdrawal.
SUNDAY:

In HEAT 3A, Jean Theoret had the field covered and ran away to an easy victory over Jimmy King, Tom Thompson and Jeff Bernard in that order.

HEAT 3B
saw J. Michael Kelly defeat Jimmy Shane in a head to head match between the points leaders. Brian Perkins and Kevin Eacret finished third and fourth.

Jimmy Shane's U-1 was back on top in in HEAT 4A with Brian Perkins in the U-21, Kevin Eacret in the U-99.9 and Jeff Bernard in the U-7 trailing.

Two of the top competitors of the weekend, Jean Theoret in the U-16 Oh Boy! Oberto and J. Michael Kelly in the U-5 Graham Trucking faced each other in HEAT 4B. Unfortunately, a pre-race penalty for chopping Kelly gave Theoret a one lap penalty and gave the U-5 400 more points heading into the final.

In the FINAL HEAT: Jean Theoret and Jimmy Shane raced deck to deck for the first two laps before colliding at the exit of turn four. After the collision, HI officials ruled that Jean Theoret crowded Jimmy Shane and caused the collision, resulting in a 1-lap penalty on Theoret. Shane went on to score the victory on the water, but after the race, officials reviewed video and overturned the call, giving J. Michael Kelly (who originally finished 2nd) the victory. Theoret was 2nd and Jimmy Shane 7th after the penalty in one of the most controversial Columbia Cup races in history.
