RACE NOTES

FRIDAY: Andrew Tate grabbed the top qualifying spot with a 160.702 MPH lap in his frist qualifying run. Jimmy Shane was second and J. Michael Kelly was third. Kelly was the only one of the top qualifers not hit by penalties.

SATURDAY:

Heat 1A saw the U-440 MAC Truck Repair & Towing hydro shed its rear wing in turn one prior to the start, bringing out a red flag. On the restart, the U-1 Miss HomeStreet with Jimmy Shane was leading Brian Perkins' U-21 Payne West Insurance and the U-12 Graham Trucking of J. Michael Kelly when Perkins' rudder sheared off, sending him hard into the infield. Perkins was shaken but not seriously injured.

In Heat 1B, Tom Thompson in the U-11 DiJulio presents J&D's got the jump at the start from Andrew Tate's U-9 Les Schwab Tires, and Jimmy King in the U-3 Griggs presents ACE Hardware, but Tate ran away at the end. King finished second and Greg Hopp in the U-99.9 CARSTAR/Miss Rock finished third. Thompson was DSQ'd with fuel violations.

Heat 2A Had Kelly finishing first, with Thompson and King finishing second and third respectively.

Heat 2B saw Shane and Tate battling deck to deck for four laps, with Shane taking the win by 1.2 seconds. Hopp followed in third half a lap later.

SUNDAY:


Heat 3A was a carbon copy of Heat 1B, with Thompson's U-11 out in front of Tate's U-9 for two laps before Tate won the heat. King follwed in third, with Hopp fourth.

Heat 3B was over before it started when J. Michael Kelly encroached on Jimmy Shane prior to the start. Shane won, Kelly was second and Dustin Echols spun in Lap 2.

Heat 4A had J. Michael Kelly jumping the start, incurring a one minute penalty, giving the win to Jimmy King and second place to Jimmy Shane.

Heat 4B was yet another copy of the U-9 and U-11 battle that has waged all weekend, with Andrew Tate edging out Tom Thompson for the win again after a four lap duel.
Final Heat: Jimmy Shane, Jimmy King and Andrew Tate were early for the start and going very slowly, leaving lane 4 open for a flying J. Michael Kelly to leapfrog all of the boats at the start. By lap 2, he had overlap on King and moved into lane 1, staying there for the remainder of the heat and cruising to the maiden win for the new U-12 team purchased by Rob Graham at the end of last season. King finished second and Shane finished third after a massive battle with Tate for all five laps. Greg Hopp rounded out the field in fifth.
